Manitoba volunteers go to war against Red River flooding

Monday, April 6, 2009 Over 1,600 volunteers registered to help build approximately 65,000 of the 500,000 sandbags to create dikes 20.5 feet (6.2 meters) high to protect the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba in the war against the Red River of the North flood. 700 volunteers answered at the rural municipality of St. Andrews alone. Once sandbags are filled for West St. Paul, St. Andrews, and Selkirk, then frozen culverts must be cleared. Canada considers Copyright Act changes

March 25, 2005 . Ottawa announced several proposed amendments to the Canadian Copyright Act, including signing onto two World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) treaties and requiring Internet Service Providers to keep records on users who transfer many files online. Obama lessens US ban on offshore drilling

Thursday, April 1, 2010 US President Barack Obama has announced that he will ease the country’s ban on offshore oil drilling, which has been in place since the 1980s. According to the plan, offshore drilling would now be allowed in parts of the Atlantic, from Delaware down to 125 miles beyond the shoreline of Florida, in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Evanston, Illinois middle school evacuated after bomb threat

Wednesday, September 22, 2010 The Chicago, Illinois area Haven Middle School in Evanston was evacuated today after school officials received a call about a bomb threat. At around 12:30 PM, the junior-high school was evacuated, with the over 600 students being taken to the nearby Kingsley Elementary School. Monday, April 23, 2012 Bus drivers from schools all over East Texas, US showed off their skills on Saturday at a competitive driving “roadeo” held in Tyler, Texas. The annual School Bus Roadeo was held in the parking lot at Robert E. Lee High School. Drivers were required to adequately navigate a series of obstacles during the event.
